Shri Hanuman Ashtak | Explained Pooja, Saadhna And Chant

Hanuman Ashtak, called as Hanuman Ashtakam in Sanskrit is a stotram (hymns dedicated to praise the Lord)  of 8 verses written by Goswami Tulsidas. Hanuman Ashtak has the power to abolish all sorrows and problems in your life and helps you keep going forward in life without looking back! The eight verses of Hanuman Ashtak are considered to be very ‘pavitra’ by Hindu religion and is chanted daily by many sadhaks. It has inbuilt power to remove any big or small problem immediately.

How to Chant Hanuman Ashtak :

Hanuman Ashtak is considered to be super effective if chanted in an appropriate manner. If , unfortunately you find yourself in grave problems , you can follow the following steps and just keep courage beacuse Lord Hanuman won’t ever disappoint you! Here’s what you should do :

• Find a quiet place to sit peacefully (it can be a temple or your own living room).
• Place a picture of Lord Hanuman in front of you and light a diya or a agarbhatti in front of the picture.
• Yellow and white colors are considered holy by Lord Hanuman so it is advisable to wear these colors.
• Just mediate for two minutes before Lord Hanuman and calm yourself.
• Take little water in your right hand and tell all your problems to Lord Hanuman and keep faith in him.
• Spill the water gently on the floor.
• Finally, start chanting the Hanuman Ashtak.
• Do it for 1-8 times daily as per your wish.

The eight verses of Hanuman Ashtak are explained  as follows :

बाल समय रवि भक्षी लियो तब,

तीनहुं लोक भयो अंधियारों I

ताहि सों त्रास भयो जग को,

यह संकट काहु सों जात न टारो I

देवन आनि करी बिनती तब,

छाड़ी दियो रवि कष्ट निवारो I

को नहीं जानत है जग में कपि,

संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो I को – १

When you were a child , you tried to eat Sun because you thought it was a fruit but you fell! The universe was filled with grief because you were the only sunshine they knew about ! As expected you recovered from Sun’s disease and the people had their hopes high once again! बालि की त्रास कपीस बसैं गिरि,

जात महाप्रभु पंथ निहारो I

चौंकि महामुनि साप दियो तब ,

चाहिए कौन बिचार बिचारो I

कैद्विज रूप लिवाय महाप्रभु,

सो तुम दास के सोक निवारो I को – २

You only wanted to protect Sugriva from Bali by asking him to live on a hill top. Bali was not allowed because of the curse of ‘Chauki Saint’. When Lord Ram was looking out for Sita along with Lord Lakshman , Sugriva had a doubt that they were looking out for him because Bali had told him so. Then you disguised yourself  as a Brahmin and met Shri Ram who caused the death of Bali and thus relived Sugriva who was Lord Ram’s devotee from his anxiety. अंगद के संग लेन गए सिय,

खोज कपीस यह बैन उचारो I

जीवत ना बचिहौ हम सो जु ,

हेरी थके तट सिन्धु सबे तब ,

लाए सिया-सुधि प्राण उबारो I को – ३

You went along with Angad and many others to find some sort of news about Sita. At the coast , Angad said “We will not live if we  return without any news about Sita” All the devotees were very tired but you finally fetched some news about Sita and saved the lives of entire devotees. रावण त्रास दई सिय को सब ,

राक्षसी सों कही सोक निवारो I

ताहि समय हनुमान महाप्रभु ,

चाहत सीय असोक सों आगि सु ,

दै प्रभुमुद्रिका सोक निवारो I को – ४

When Lord Ravan was mentally torturing  Sita by telling her female maids at Ashok Vatika to irritate her. You reached at the right time and killed most of the enemies. When Sita prayed for fire from Ashok tree you gave Lord Ram’s ring to her and so gave her Lord Ram’s message. Hence, you were the one to uplift Sita and give her confidence. बान लग्यो उर लछिमन के तब ,

प्राण तजे सूत रावन मारो I

लै गृह बैद्य सुषेन समेत ,

आनि सजीवन हाथ दिए तब ,

लछिमन के तुम प्राण उबारो I को – ५

When Meghnath arched an arrow in Lord Lakshman’s heart , you brought entire ‘Sushen Vaidya’ along with his home instead of getting Sanjeevni. You were the one to revive Lakshman and save his life. रावन जुध अजान कियो तब ,

नाग कि फाँस सबै सिर डारो I

बंधन काटि सुत्रास निवारो I को – ६

When Ravan tied snakes on Lord Ram and his devotees  when they were fast asleep at night , then you were the one to bring Gaduda , the big eagle to save everyone . बंधू समेत जबै अहिरावन,

लै रघुनाथ पताल सिधारो I

देबिन्हीं पूजि भलि विधि सों बलि ,

जाये सहाए भयो तब ही ,

अहिरावन सैन्य समेत संहारो I को – ७

When Lord Ram and Lord Lakshman were kidnapped by Ahiravan and taken to Paatal when they almost got done with rituals of human sacrifice , you were the one to come there and kill Ahiravan and ave life o Lord Ram. काज किये बड़ देवन के तुम ,

बीर महाप्रभु देखि बिचारो I

जो कछु संकट होए हमारो I को – ८

When you have done so many good things to all Gods including the almighty Lord Ram. My god, please look at me and tell me which hurdles cannot be removed by your one look? My god, I pray to you to remove any hurdle you may find as I consider you my Guru.
